Well here I am in the fantastic Kaberamaido, off the power grid, no phones 2.5 hours down what was once a good road and is a dirt track. This is a place that has had its infrastructure destroyed by war. This area has only been at peace since 2005. I am visiting a project here, that is quite good. Great people.. Anyway better get back to it the generator is expensive to run.

Today has been quite relaxing. Went to a pool in the afternoon and then a sweet sixteen party, and then a 30th birthday party. Having fun hanging with Ian, Tash, and Tash’s friend Lauren.
I’m a bit up in the air about what is to happen next week. I am meant to be visiting a project somewhere else but I haven’t received any contact back from them. So I will see what happens in the next few days.

Is a very fun game the kids in the village I briefly visited today played. I love it, the children in the villages are very innocent and rather fun. They were so excited by the presence of the project people, and me the white man (Muzungu). They kept on yelling out photo as well. So I got over my dislike of white people taking photos of villages, and indulged them by taking some photos.
People here remain remarkably friendly and proud. It’s taken me longer to really notice the poverty here then in India as people hide it well near the towns.
I have meet many great people here, which has been nice.

Well I’ve made it to Mbale, after a 5 and a bit hour bus ride in an African bus. Whilst it was relatively safe, it certainly was not comfortable.
I am staying with some funky people here in Mbale, they are TEAR Fieldworkers. I am so thankful to Ian for meeting me in Kampala and showing me around. It made the whole experience so much easier. I probably would of been $300 poorer right now if not for him..
Get to visit the project tomorrow which should be interesting. Still not sure exactly what I’ll see there..
In Kampala I stayed at a funky backpacker resort that was fun, but a bit of an ex-pat central.

I’m here, it’s good.
Don’t have that much of a feel for the place yet. The city is a strange mix. Haven’t really processed it much yet.
Leaving the Kampala tonight for Mbale.

Just found out my flight tonight leaves at a different time and is via Rome.
Note that my flight to KL was via Brisbane and I wasn’t told about that either.

Well my time in London Part 1 is nearly up.
Yesterday I did many miles of walking, some electronics browsing, meet up with Ewan for lunch who was much better company then the awful BLT I had with him, and then went took a nap before dinner, woke up at midnight, grabbed a burger and went back to bed.
Today I’ve mainly been wandering again. Did some shopping too, got a voice recorder and a book. I went and had lunch at the united burger co who use only free range meat.
Thoughts about England. I am overwhelmed by how many Eastern/Central European women are working in hospitality too. I wonder if it’s because of the blonde hair and willingness to work for lower rates.. I am loving the diversity and annomity of London. Even more then Sydney it is a place where people of every colour are locals. That’s not to say there isn’t discrimination, I can’t tell about that in such a short time.
I’m off to Uganda tonight. That will make it four countries, and four continents in four days. Which seems like a little much travel to me.

Well I’m now in London, not sure what to do with my day but I’m sure I’ll find something…

I really should of realised that hearing The Cure song going Nowhere on Monday night as the first song on shuffle should of told me something… But that is yesterday or whenever that was.
Well today I made it to KL. I fly out to London in another few hours on what will be a truly red eye flight for me. The sense of community whilst waiting to board remained strong.
I particularly made friends with two Sri Lankan’s a mother and her daughter who were off to visit Columbo. We were put up at the airport hotel and decided to go into KL, with me as tour guide. I failed miserably though as we stayed in KL Sentral station due to their lack of adventure. I did though get to buy myself a clean shirt.
After our short expedition into the city we enjoyed a fairly yummy buffet dinner. Another delayed passengers child a five year old boy kept coming up to us and saying “What” it was so cute. Made me want to have kids but then their were some annoying kids which fixed that for me.
On another note, I’ve been proud to see coverage on CNN and BBC about the “Sorry” stuff tomorrow. Feels nice to have even symbolic change.

Well it’s now 8.47 and I was meant to take off over 10 hours ago. Dad got me a hotel room in the city, leaving other less fortunate souls to sleep in the airport. which I got to at 2am and left a bit after 5.30am.. Didn’t really sleep but I’ll take great pleasure in making the airline hopefully pay the large rate for the hotel room.
This delay has though created a sense of family amongst people. Which is nice. Definately made a few single serving friends.
Not sure what this does to my London leg.
