Amish

Friday, September 14th, 2007

I have a lot of respect for the Amish, they live tough lives with integrity and love. My old housemate/coworker and current mate Wes has interesting stories about the great little things they did. How they looked out for the community, both Amish and non-Amish.

Some of you may remember a while ago that there was a shooting at one of their schools were 5 students were shot, and if I remember correctly the gunman shot himself. They extended grace and forgiveness to the widow by giving her some money.

Many from Nickel Mines have pointed out that forgiveness is a journey, that you need help from your community of faith and from God … to make and hold on to a decision not to become a hostage to hostility.

Years on

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

This year I forgot September 11th, it was only because of Tiffany that I remembered. Sadly for me the memory of those 2,974 who died in those dreadful attacks has faded.

Since then in Iraq alone American soldiers have died in the War on Terror in just Iraq. Also at the very minimum 71259 Iraq’s have been slaughtered as a direct result. I really think that it is time to change the plan in Iraq.

Saying it like it is

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

The Women and Child Development Minister of India Renuka Chowdhury, has just told a profound truth.

You cannot trust men or your husbands…
If you believe that men will be careful, then you can forget about protecting yourself.
Men will not buy a condom when they come staggering home while drunk.
Women need to get condoms to protect themselves; let the men be suspicious.

This minister is making very blunt but useful statements. She also goes on to talk about the need for more sex education and a need to get over it..
