Emperors and Angels

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

I don’t normally link to things like sermons on my blog, but this NT Wright sermon is bloody brilliant. It is one of the Christmas sermons I’ve seen/heard/read. A true call to action. Read it even if you don’t believe in Jesus, it will show you an important but neglected side/role of Christianity.

A failed year

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

This year I failed to get 52 movies. As far as I can work out I saw at least 18 movies at the cinema this year.
I did OK considering how much of the year I have been in India. In Dimapur I have no cinema that shows English movies.
I am glad to at least beat Howie.

I will only have 11 months next year to try and get to 52 movies as I don’t get to somewhere with a decent cinema until February.

Here is what I saw in no particular order:
1) Pirates of Cariabian
2) Awful Truth
3) Munich
4) Syriana
5) Good Night and Good Luck
6) Over the Hedge
7) The Devil Wears Prada
8) Open Season
9) Lady in the Water
10) Superman Returns
11) X-Men: The Last Stand
12) United 93
13) The Ant Bully
14) Pink Panther
15) Mission: Impossible III
16) Walk the Line
17) Jindabine
18) The Producers

Update:
I have found a few more movies I saw:
19) North Country
20) Brokeback Mountain
21) Jarhead
22) Broken Flowers

Feeling a bit better now. Almost got half my quota.

Update
23) Lord of War.
-1)Walk the line (Saw it on the plane).
Total 22.

Because Africa needs more war

So Ethiopa and Somalia are now entering into a full scale war.

Why can’t we all just be friends?

All White People Look the Same

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I have some photos on the wall of my room, and I had an Indian friend come visit my room today. He pointed at pictures of Tom and Howie and asked if they were pictures of me. It was rather funny.

He also pointed to a picture of my friend Martin from Peru and asked if he was Indian.

Ten million girls killed by parents

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

In the last 20 years the government of India claims that 10 million girls have been killed by their parents. I am sure the real figures are many orders of magnitiute, particularly when you include abortions. Then there is also the slow death of just not investing in female childeren that leads to them dying young anyway.

It all makes me rather mad.

Rack

Friday, December 15th, 2006

I got my rack yesterday. Whilst it is impressive in size, it is taller then me, wider then me, and deeper then me, the colour is really not doing it for me. It’s metallic gray is just so unsexy. It’s quite depressing the It did come in a big woden crate which was impressive at least. Anyway I’ll post some more photos tomorrow.

Chocolate

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I really like chocolate. I managed to pick up some Belgian ones whilst I was in Kohima. Sadly I just finished my last one.

I think I will be having to resort to Kit Kats for a while, because they seem to be the best Indian chocolate you can buy.. Then again maybe I’ll find some more import chocolates..

I read this in The Age today. Very much worth a read.

Nagafest

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I got back today from a 2 day trip to Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. I went with some of the people from the project and it was a really fun break from work and Dimapur.

We got to visit the Hornbill festival, go to a Belguim coffee festival, some of a rock concert, the war memorial, a farm and a village. We also got to eat a fair bit of Naga food, which is very heavy on both spice and meat with fat. I also got to eat some snails as well which was a novelty but not something I plan on doing a lot of.

Kohima and the Naga hills are so beautiful, and I can’t help thinking that if it wasn’t for all the restrictions Nagaland would be a very popular tourist spot.

Leather Jacket

Friday, December 1st, 2006

I brought a leather jacket today. I got it at the Hong Kong Market.. Probably a fake but that’s ok by me.
