I don’t think God wants another person in this world to get infected with HIV/AIDS. We can stop a hell of a lot of infections by supporting two simple things.
1) Needle Exchange programs for injecting drug users
2) Condoms for all
I think that we need to adopt these now. I don’t think there is time to debate the ethics of whether or not by doing these things we condone activities which we may or may not agree with. I think it’s far more important to prevent further suffering from HIV/AIDS. 40.3million people are currently infected with HIV/AIDS about 3.1million died last year from it and 4.9 million people got infected.
This has to stop.
Just to give some perspective every minute about 9 people get infected with HIV/AIDS. That’s pretty damn scary.
and damn crazy! my goodness.
doesn’t it say on the condom commercials that they don’t prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS? I’m just saying that it may not be the silver bullet that you think. I haven’t seen any real data either way. However, I do agree that the needle exchange program is a must.
also if you don’t think about morality now, then when do you? if you wait, is that too late to bother?
Well the UN AID’s program, doctors, HIV/AIDS specialist I know and Sexual Health workers seem to think condoms are a critical way of reducing infection rates. There not 100% but they are pretty damn good.
I do think the morality is important but that too often ends in a circular argument with no resolution made. I personally think that the most important thing is to minimise harm. I think there is a place for teaching on purity and counselling.
There is also an important place for condoms within married couples as well.
I just want to add that I know off people with HIV/AIDS who have partners who sleep with them using condoms. That has got to show that they are pretty much 100%. Isn’t it totally immoral that we restrict the use of condoms because we may feel a little uncomfortable with sex. Yeah it is the time to think about morality, but not just within our own frame of reference.
