Looking a little better
Tuesday, January 31st, 2006It seems now acording to the NSCN(I-M) blog that the ceasefire will probably happen. It just is a question of how long for.

Things are looking very dicy indeed for Nagaland. I’m more aprehensive now then I was before. The formal talks have failed. Maybe the informal talks today will achieve something. If not, well I guess either way it’s in God’s hands.
So within the next 24 odd hours I should find out if the area I am meant to be working in this year is going to descend back into civil war after a ceasefire that has been running since 1997. According to what I have read it should actually all be decided by about now but I have to wait for it to hit the press.
It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen, it makes little logical sense for the NSCN(I-M) to break the ceasefire. It will send their state backward years developmentally and result in wide spread suffering.
If the ceasefire is broken then my trip to India becomes postponed indefinitely. This would in someways be a relief as my job over there is going to be very hard. It would also be shattering though for me personally not to go. I have found that I have been delaying investing too heavily emotionally until this ceasefire is actually extended. I don’t know if this is a wise thing or not. Maybe it’s not trusting in God.
Anyway I am ending up feeling very mixed emotionally. Regardless of my own mixed emotions, I hope and pray for the Naga peoples sake that this ceasefire does continue.
Yes that’s right Dosas are not on tonight..
As a white Australian I find it hard to understand why people want ethnic homelands. Yet so much of the violence and oppression in this world seems to be based on the idea of ethnic, or religiously defined nation states.
I wish everyone could just be friends.
Thank you John Howard for not making flag burning illegal in this fine country of ours.
There is a round of peace talks this Weekend in Thailand between the Naga rebels and the government. I do hope that they find a way forward.
Happy Australia Day everyone!
As much as I like Australia I think that it would be good to honour this campaign Make Indigenous Poverty History. It’s a truly abysmal the state in which many Indigenous Australian’s live in.
Who is your Australian of the year?
I’m thinking Senator Barnaby Joyce, for giving the nation hope that maybe there are people of conscious in our government. Shame that the concessions achieved in the legislations weren’t very big.
I think I am rather foolish sometimes.
If you are using webmin remotely make sure /etc/hosts has an entry for the IP address you are using. This is cause it tries to reverse dns resolution even when you disable it. Silly software.
Listening to my new Bob Marley is making my coding at work go a lot more smoothly. There is something about his music that makes it really good programing music. I think it gives a nice relaxed vibe to it.
Read it here.
Well actually I’ve been back home since late Friday Night, but I’ve been too lazy to blog. It’s good to be back in Sydney. I’ve missed people lots. It’s going to be sad going away again.
My breakout yesterday worked well. Now to see if anyone wants to go to the pub today…
We are supposed to be in a lock down because of terrorism in the local area. We are meant to get permission to leave the grounds. I have decided to rebel and go and do a shopping run. I am looking forward to it.
