Born Into Brothels

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

Damn depressing but a bloody good doco. The pictures were so good.

It made me want to hit people. But I couldn’t work out who I should hit. You can’t hit everyone can you?

The cycle of povery is horrible. It is sad to think of what will become of some of the kids. Yet there is joy because it looks like some at least will make it out of brothels.

I can buy Daytona for only US $5400.

fun…

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

My tuner now works pretty well on FM today. I added chanel scaning today.

start geek speak

I had all kinds of problems with the tuner card restarting.. I think I must of been accessing arrays out of index or something.. I don’t know.. I fixed it all somehow. Added an extra element to an array. Replaced delay loop with call to _delay_ms. I am tempted to add a few buttons to the program so I can play without using the RS232 interface. Or maybe coding up a tuner app.. Maybe I should code up a tuner app tomorrow.

Silly Bits

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Who would of thought that reading of the bit field map would get me in so much trouble?

Silly me was reading it as though it was ordered “B3B2B1B0A3A2A1A0″ when it was actually ordered “B0B1B2B3A0A1A2A3″. Since finding that I have finally been able to get my tuner to work.

I now have a working tuner card on my desk that I can change the station, and mute using my computers serial port.

Yay!

Harry Potter and the half-blood prince

Saturday, July 16th, 2005

Just finished reading Harry Potter. I managed it in less then 10 hours. Just goes to show how fast you can read a good book.

My non-spoiller thoughts are as follows. Good book, definately not for small children. I’d advise you to wait until book seven comes out before reading it. It may help ease some anxiety.

Bloody HELL I am going to have to wait years for J K Rowling to bring out another book.

Van Morrison

Can the man do anything wrong?

Listening to “Too long in exile” and it’s so smooth and good.

Thanks Tom.

It only took two visits to the post office to get it. Pity it was Wahroonga Post Office that I had to go to. But I got to catch a train to work. I rarely do that.

Fun Blog

I think I might of fallen in love

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

I think I might of fallen in love with an Indian woman. Her name is Arundhati Roy and she is absolutely wonderful. Such a good writter so passionate and articulate. And beautiful too

I am going to share two quotes from her book “The algebra of infinate justice”.

“The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while your alive and die only when you are dead”

In response to what the above quote means she writes:

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your insignificance. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget.”

BB King is the best

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

Just watching more Live Aid and BB King is performing at a Jazz festival. He has the men in the crowd singing “Rock me” and the women sining “All night long.”

Is my family dysfunctional?

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

We are having a Sunday afternoon chat except that it’s online. I’m in my room, Dad’s in the study and Mum’s in the other study. We are chatting with my sister who is in Crows Nest about 20 minutes drive away.

Live Aid

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

I now own the Live Aid DVD Box Set (thanks Adam). It’s so posh. I have watched the first three discs. (By watch I mean listen and look up every now and then). A very diverse collection of music on the discs too. Dire Straits, U2, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Judas Priest, Queen, Black Sabbath Phil Collins.
