Maya Dosa

Monday, May 30th, 2005

Went to Maya Dosa tonight with Sam and Jem. ‘

Name: Maya Wigram St Haris Park

Date: 30/05/2005

Food:

I ordered a samosa first. It was good but it came in a little bowl full of what appeared to be BBQ sauce. This is not on.

I ordered a paper masala dosa. It was pretty good. The service was very quick. I didn’t have time to start the samosa before it was on my table. Good presentation. Only two dippers though came with the dosa. The texture was pretty good. However personally I felt the pancake part was a bit too brittle.

Atmosphere:

Maya was very modern. Perhaps to modern, the tables and chairs and whole place had an upmarket look. Very trendy. I was not a fan of this. It was quite popular and noisy too.

Value:

My Papar Masala Dosa was $8.50 and the Samosa $1.50. Not a bad price but still a dollar or so
more then I’d like. The service was good. They also had a range of Indian drinks. Sadly no thumbs up.

Rating:
*** - I give it 3 stars. I am afraid that the somosa sauce and the attmosphere stopped it getting the four stars it could of got. When I go to Indian I want it to be authentic.

Hard

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

I was at a Sydney Anglican church tonight. They did a good job welcoming me unfortuanatly that was about all that was good. Well I talked to a guy who had done a medical elective at a hospital in India I’d been too that was cool to.

However the music was dead, so dry no passion. The songs were pretty mediocre.

The sermon though is what concerned me most. It was talking about Romans 8 and being conquerors as Christians. The person giving the sermon went on today about how difficult it was to be a Christian in Australia. How we are persecuted. I think that the concept of Christian’s being persecuted in Australia is rubbish. So maybe you get picked on every now and then big deal. Fat people probably get far more picked on.

He talked about being a Christian as being hard. I agree with this to a degree. It’s hard to be an authentic follower of Christ. Being a nominal Christian is a piece of cake. No one will do anything bad to you. That’s the problem. In a land so rich, in a posh suburb why not just be a nominal Christian. It’s so much safer. So easy to do. Requires a little bit of faith and effort and you get your get out of Hell free card. You can even keep your sports car or luxury 4WD.

Where as an authentic and deep rooted faith in Christ changes everything. I think if you take the Gospel and the Bible seriously you can not help but be changed by God. Take a look at the sermon on the mount. Have a read of Isiah, or Michah. Read the parables Jesus told. Such a hard path to truly follow Jesus. Maybe you can keep your luxury car but I doubt it. I think Jesus meant it when he said it was easier for a camel to parse through the eye of a needle then a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Trusting God is to risk everything you hold dear on earth. God may ask you to give up all that you hold dear. My prayer is that I will be authentic enough to allow God to have his way totally. Then I will be able to say I am a conqueror in Christ.

P.S
I don’t for a minute think that there weren’t authentic Christian’s at the church I went to. However I think that the middle class churches of Australia are breading grounds for shallow Christians.

New Category

I now have a Dosa category how cool is that. So useful for when I rave about how good they are.

Blessed

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

I don’t deserve to have the friends I have. They are so good.

Had dinner with Emily last night. It was really good, partly because we were eating Indian. The other part was just chatting. It was fun to hear more about general life in Peru. It’s funny India and Peru are such different places but they have a fair bit in common.

Love and mercy

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

I was sittin’ in a crummy movie
With my hands on my chin
all the violence that occurs
Seems like we never win

Love and mercy that’s what you need tonight
Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was lying in my room
And the news came on TV
A lotta people out there hurtin’
And it really scares me

Love and mercy that’s what you need tonight
Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was standing in a bar
And watching all the people there
Oh the loneliness in this world
Well it’s just not fair

Love and mercy that’s what we need tonight
Love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

Brian Wilson

Great words. I love it.

Very much worth a read. Particularly for anyone thinking about principles for working using IT in developing countries. It’s a pretty cool Declaration.

Yes it’s happened at last. To who you many be asking.

It’s to the Dosa. I had a Masala Dosa tonight, so good.

Me and Sam went to the Taj at 91 Wigram St Harris Park. We were on an adventure the place we were going to go was closed but the Taj was like 20m down the road. We decided we’d have some sweets and ask them where to get Dosa’s. They said we could get them there so we did. So much fun. After that we went and visted Jo Kemp.

Sam and I are wanting to make this a regular thing. If anyone would like to join they can send an email to dosa@onegeek.net and we will add them to our mailing list. We have many dosa varieties and restaurants to try.

Updated the spelling.

House full of librarians

Sunday, May 22nd, 2005

Every year my Mum has one or two librarians stay the night before library conference. They come from the country to go to a Christian School librarians conference. They are lovely and they make me smile.

One snores so loudly I can hear it from my room.
