Christian Bookshops Make Me Feel Icky
April 18th, 2005
I feel very icky when looking through Christian Bookshops. Even on the web they feel so tacky. I went to Koorong’s and Word’s online stores. I think Border’s will remain my favorite Christian bookshop. I can browse there without having to see the full covers of the books and not feel like I am in a getto.
That’s actually quite scarey David as I was in a massive Christian Bookshop in Birmingham on Saturday and thinking very similar things myself. There’s so much tripe for sale it’s scarey. Also puts me off writing any books too, as I wonder how anyone will ever locate them in that mountain off crap.
AND christian CDs here in the UK are never less than £15 which is a bloody rip off. I usually buy CDs of a far greater quality for half that.
“Jesus never let me down
You know, Jesus used to show me the score
Then they put Jesus in show business
Now it’s hard to get in the door”
Rest assured my bookstore won’t be like that …
i don’t mind koorong. don’t get me wrong, you have to be careful, there’s a lot of spiritual junk food out there. but it’s exactly that, spiritual junk food. whereas, i think at places like borders, it’s mostly secular junk food. which i think has the potential to be alot more dangerous.
