Flying Frogs

Monday, September 20th, 2004

Yesterday I had to rush out of English church to go fix a computer. It was dark and I was running along a path sundenly my foot hit something and I saw this frog flying into the air. It must of gone up at least a few meters. But it landed ok and managed to eventually get up and jump away.

Good Sunsets

Wednesday, September 15th, 2004

You get some good sunsets here. It’s pretty funky.

Grid lock was really bad in Raxaul. We got on our tonga (horse and cart) and ended off disembarking after taking 10minutes to get about 2 blocks. We ended up walking back. I saw a good sunset over the railway tracks. You get some nice sunsets here.

Sleep Is Good

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

I got some extra sleep this morning and went to work late. It was great. Unfortuanately one of my pairs of pants were damaged by the washer guy. Big blue stain everywhere. So I am now wearing my trendy Delhi trousers. I feel like I stand out a lot. But that’s okay because I get stared at anyway for being white. So it doesn’t make that much of a difference.

Good Sunday

Monday, September 13th, 2004

Yesterday I was going to go to Nepal. It didn’t happen because it wasn’t safe. In the end I had quite a pleasent day. Some of the Med Students came round for Lays and coke. Well actually they had Pepsi and I raided my private stash for a Coke. Got to stay pure. Later we went to Raxaul markets which was fun. I brought some shirts off some leapors. One of which was premade the other which is being tailored will be ready tonight. Indian tailores are so quick.

Had a fun evening too. Nothing exciting just general hanging out. We sang Beautiful One which was nice except no one knew it.

Bunch Of Dogs

Sunday, September 12th, 2004

Can’t go to Nepal because “it’s not safe.” What a dog. All cause George W invaded Iraq and some Nepalise got killed whilst working there. Stupid Stupid Stupid.

I miss hot chips and gravy

Saturday, September 11th, 2004

I really miss hot chips and gravy. I miss hot chips. I miss good deep fried food. There’s these eggplant things that are done kind of like scollopes which are alright. Lays are good, but I really miss hot chips!!

ATM!!

Thursday, September 9th, 2004

I found an ATM in Raxaul. We went past it on a horse and cart a few days ago when we went to get passport photos for the medical students. I decided I’d give it a go latter.

So yesterday I walked over there and slipped my card into the door and it let me in. Then went to the ATM. It said my name on the screen after inserting my card. I almost put in my old pin but then I remmembered my new one. Then I requested 10,000Rs and it said did I mind not getting a recipt. I said Ok. It took a few minutes to count out the money. Then it spat it out for me. I placed in my wallet. It really made my wallet buldged(I wasn’t expecting to get the money).

Then I ran down the street. Did a little shopping trying hard not to get mugged. Got home safely with my money. So now I can live for the next few months and buy a few luxury items.

Scheduled

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

Well I now have my basic schedule for the rest of my stay. Looks like I am going to be visiting 5 more hospitals over October and November. Then being based in Delhi for a while at the end of November and into December. It’s good to know what’s happening.

Silly Things

Monday, September 6th, 2004

I don’t like broken connectors and wiring that don’t follow the convention. Or cables not connected to the closest socket. Or when people fix these problems by wiggling cables.

Thanks Ryan

I’d just like to say that Ryan is the bomb. His set me up a gmail account. Though there aren’t many good user names left. I think there must be lots of beta testers.

Almost the weekend

Saturday, September 4th, 2004

Yay!! It’s Saturday. That means it’s almost the weekend. I can take tommorow off. That will be nice. Went to the markets on cycle rickshaw yesterday with one of the Brits. It was good fun. Though it can be back breaking. The problem is the roads aren’t puka here. They aren’t paved properly. And there’s lots of mud and other stuff on the road. The big exciting news is that a big shipment of Lays came in. There is now an abduance of 10 and 20 Ruppie packets. I brought two 20 ruppie and 5 10 ruppie packets. As well as 2 packs of Yummy biscuits (made by a company called Anmol) and 2 packs of Hide and Seek.

Home Coming

Friday, September 3rd, 2004

I am beginning to feel like when I come home everything will be different. I knew I was going to change but I didn’t ever think everyone else would change as much as they have so far even.

Oh Brave New World.

Working On My Own

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

I’ve been enjoying working on my own this week. It’s been nice. It means I can do things quickly, and get interupted less. I have barely had to do any sys admin work. Which has been nice.

I finally got my credit card activated. So now I might be able to get more money. YAY. If only ATM’s where as easy to access as God. In Raxaul’s there’s not any. Well there might be one domestic one. But none I can use the Visa network on. Which is a bit of a dog.

Also Reliance my mobile provider here sucks majorly. You can’t make international calls if you have less then 300Rs of credit. Oh and the cell phone base stations go out regularly too.

Bihar sucks!
