Why didn’t you tell me?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2004

Why didn’t anyone say the election had been called. I even checked the smh website and it had nothing on it. My Swiss friend told me the election had been called. I ended up having to check the AEC website to find out. I am looking forward to voting in India.

Holy Webcam

Monday, August 30th, 2004

We now have a holy webcam. Well actually the whole computer had hands laid on it by the minister here.

Though I think it might of been made unholy by the Pepsi drunk afterwoods.

Webcams

Monday, August 30th, 2004

We’ve got a webcam at the hospital now. I am very sceptical of them. It works but not very well. They’ve got it for tele-medicine, I don’t know how useful it will be. But it was cheap.

I’ve had hicups this morning not pleasent. I hate them.

Saturday Night

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

Yay it’s Saturday I can wake up 30 minutes latter tomorrow. Maybe I’ll catch up on some sleep.

Oh Well

Friday, August 27th, 2004

The head of the hospital’s computer hard disk crashed. Looks like it will have to be sent off for data recovery. Much cheaper here only about $AU100. I am still rather tired and a little ticked off. Work hasn’t been much fun the past few days. Oh well.

Parties are fun

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

Had a party last night it was good fun. I like parties. I am sure the British guy who’s birthday it was had never had a b’day like that. I am however tired today. Oh well.

Grrr

Wednesday, August 25th, 2004

Somethings just make me go GRRR! Not in the pleasant way either. But in the fustrating way. I am sick of dodgy hardware and poor quality software. It just wastes so much time. Dot Matrix printers are from the devil. And PROGRESS DB software is from hell. Oh well. I guess I just keep on going. I really think the hirarchical system in India is counter-productive. It totally criples initiative which is so important. There is also a lack of emphasis on critical thinking. Excellent memorisation skills but people are not taught to think as much here. GRRR!

On the plus side I am getting somewhere with my other work. My presentation preparation is going alright. A bit slowly but that’s okay.

It’s an English medical electives birthday today so were having a little party. It should be quite fun. Yay for parties.

Back In Raxaul

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

Well after a long and traumatic train journey I am back in Raxaul. It’s much hotter here then it was in Delhi and my room doesn’t have AC. It’s nice to be back here. Good to have normal meals, lots of takeaway and restruant food gets boring. I missed the people here too. Duncan Hospital has such a good community vibe. It was good to spend time in Delhi though. Doing some serious shopping and the like. Swiss chocolate in Delhi is very expensive though. I enjoyed my time. On the last day in Delhi we went out to breakfast at the American diner with one of my Australian friends. It was good. I’d forgotten how good it can be just sitting and chatting in a cafe.

The train trip to Raxaul is far too long. There was a snoring man and a crying child. I did though manage to finish a book and start a new one. Today so far I have been “taking rest”. I was way too tired this morning. I am going to try and get some work done this arvo. Got a lot of training material to create/prepare. Could be interesting.

Lost Cards And Movies

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

Went to Agra yesterday. It was pretty good. I liked Agra Fort more then the Taj though. The Taj was pretty but just not much to see. I had a good day. When I got back to the hotel at like 9.30pm I went to withdraw some money from an atm out the front of the hotel. Somewhere between there and my room I lost my card. Oh well. A new one is on the way and I should get some emergancy cash tomorrow from Visa. We shall see.

Saw I Robert tonight it was pretty alright. Goto go now.

Blog Spam

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

Arg some mean people have started massive spamming of my blog. I had to create Mysql queries to get rid of all the damn comments. I am so moving of MT soon. Piece of crud!

Delhi

Sunday, August 15th, 2004

Back in Delhi. My gosh I had forgotten what civilisation was like. Cities are so big. I like Delhi. Train trip was fine. More later.

Breaks

Friday, August 13th, 2004

Well I have been in India 5 and a half weeks now. Been in Raxaul nearly 4 weeks. I think it’s time for a break. I am going to Delhi with my flat mate for a weeks break tommorow. I need some fast Internet and some pizza and some fast food. It’s not all going to be pleasure. I am having a meeting down in Delhi too. Then there’s all the shopping I have to do for myself and others. Delhi is kind of like the promised land when your living in Raxaul. It’s the place to go to get all the good things your missing.

My time here so far has been good. I’ve been achieving things which is good. Made lots of good friends so far too. So it’s been pretty puka. When I get back I am going to have to work hard as I am running a workshop a few weeks after I get back. It should be good.

What I am most looking forward to is sleep. Living here is like being on a Christian camp. Your meant to wake up quite early, have breakfast and devotions then go on with the days activities. Then you sleep on a hard bed and try and get some sleep. You only get one day of rest here too and you can’t sleep in on it because of church.

All this is okay. It just means you need to get away every now and then. So YAY for breaks.

Tour Guide

Tuesday, August 10th, 2004

I’ve been playing tour guide a bit this so far this week. It’s been fun. There are three new med electives two British and one Swiss. I’ve been helping them get orientanted it’s been lots of fun. I am realising I know a bit about the hospital now. I almost know my way around the place. One of the new people has a dv camera. I am tempted to make a short film. Or do some training videos. I’ll have to do something. Too good an oportunity to miss.
