Commy Dinner
I love commy dinner. It’s nice to escape now and then.
Howie better get some monetary support from the organisation he works for soon or I am going to get very pissed off.
Just fixed a problem I’d been having with some Mandrake 9.1 boxes and arecord. At certian sampling rates arecord wouldn’t record properly. I had a look at the versions of stuff and found out that arecord was version 0.9rc7 and the driver was 0.9rc8. So I updated arecord from the source and now it works again.

I am not feeling very happy at the momment. Today which was meant to be a good day turned into a rather bad one.
First off this morning I found out I woke up early then I needed to. I dealt with that. Then I get a call saying the file server is broken. Somewhere in updating my desktop my VPN tunnel broke and so I had rush up to Hornsby to change over to the backup computer in person. As I was meeting Andrew at 11am I didn’t have much time to fix that.
Got it all working fine and went and met Andrew. That was good we saw Out Of Time.
Then I had to go into the city to lodge a Variation Of Program for at Uni. So I hoped on the a north shore train. It was one of the silver ones with no air conditioning. The train was going alright until it got to North Sydney. There was “congestion” in the city. We sat at North Sydney for 5-10 minutes and then slowly ever so slowly travelled to Wynard where we again stopped. And continued like that too Central. Outside Central within view of the station we were stopped waiting for another train to clear the platform for at least another 10min. Waiting in an un-airconditioned train for over half an hour is not a plesaent experience. All up it took me 80 plus min to get from Hornsby to Central.
I got off the train and rushed off to the eng faculty to do my paperwork. Anyway I give the woman in the office initial lot of forms and there was a problem with one for I needed to split it over two forms. Now these forms are double sided and have a lot of writting for you to do so it took a while. Anyway eventually I got those forms to an acceptable standard.
All I had left to do was lodge my IT elective at the IT faculty. Except when I got there it was closed. Bit of a shame really but then I saw a sign saying they weren’t accepting VOP’s until the 25th of Feb. So it didn’t matter in the end.
More late running trains this time an express down the mainline that wasn’t at the station. It was probably only 10min late all up. Then I walked home it was threating to poor down on me but it didn’t, bit disaponted by that.
Then at home I had to work on one of my least favorite jobs, for a non-paying client. You see we have literally almost no money at the moment and I think it’s stupid to help out an un-grateful Christian radio station. I didn’t realise there was as little money as there is. You see we are waiting on checks apparantly. Anyway I fixed there problems and I am left tired and pissed off.
Oh yeah and portage my package manager on my computer has died.
I am going to try and blog every day this month. I am going alright so far.
An annoymous coward who likes to call themselves N/A has been leaving comments about my love life on my blog. I am not particularly impressed with N/A comments but I felt it time I did a proper update on my love life to quell any rumors.
My love life is currently a non-event. I am not really looking at changing this at the moment. I am not particullary intrested in attempting to woo anyone at the momment. That’s not to say I wouldn’t seize the day if an oportunity came along. More that I am not going to go out looking.
At about 3 minutes to 7pm when the party was scheduled to start I saw Nina(who’s party it was) and a couple of other people with her head inside. I followed them in. Now up until this point I hadn’t know whether the party was in a restruant or a bar. I found out that it was actually in a fairly nice looking bar. The corner that had been set aside for the party was dimly lit. The seats had no back rests though which has given me a quite sore back.
Anyway I sat around with the three other people who were there at that stage. Nina was a bit worried that no one would turn up. They hadn’t even eaten yet so her boyfriend went off to get her and her friend some food. Whilst we sat around for a while and talked. When her boyfriend came back I dashed of to Macca’s and had a large nugget meal and then dashed back to the party.
Eventually people started arriving. I ended up talking mainly to strangers which says a lot for my relationship with my fellow engineers who where there. I ended up drinking only a glass of wine, and a not very nice cocktail that another girl(a Interior Design student) there had foolishly brought. I then felt honour bound to buy her a replacement drink so I got her a Cosmo.
I sat around and talked to the Interior Design student and Nina’s friend from high school who looked like she didn’t know anyone. The party was a “normal” party and a DJ started playing music and people started dancing. It became a bit hard to talk to people after this. I nearly danced a few times but resisted the urge.
After a while I decided I really felt like a nice long walk and decided to ditch the party and go for a walk over the habour bridge. So I left at about 10.30pm and did that. On the way I saw 6 security guards looking very inefficent. I also stopped for a little while and admired the view. I love Sydney. I think it’s a beautiful place.
I got to Milsons Point Station and ended up waiting 18 long minutes, I think it was partly because the due time kept on staying still for minutes at a time. Eventually the train came and I walked home from the station.
There endith the adventures of this night.
So with my quest over I decided it was time to proceed to Hyde park and read a book. The first bit of grass I sat on wasn’t grassy enough and I got a bit of dirt on my bum. I decided to change to a grassy patch. I then proced to read my newly acquired Bible and listened to some some music. Then I prayed a bit. And then I read some of the Corrections.
I then went to one of those swish pay toliets they have in the city. After using the ammentaties I procedded to Martin Place. I went across the road to the Virgin Megastore and listened to some of the Beetles Naked or whatever it’s called. Then left there and went and checked out the GPO where the party was to take place in another hour.
I sat on a park bench for a while and read before deciding it was too uncomfortable. I decided to sit on one of the longues in the GPO. So I sat on a lounge and listened to Van Morrison for about 45 minutes. Then I went outside to wait for people to arrive.
Tonight I had a party to go to in the city that started at 7pm. I decided to go into the city and so left home at about 2.30 and caught an express train into the city. I then caught a Millennium train to Town Hall.
On the train I had this sudden urge to buy a Bible from a secular book shop. The idea kind of scared me a little I thought about the odd looks I might get at the counter and I couldn’t really afford it. So I decided that I must buy a Bible if there was one in the price range. So I got of my train and proceeded to Dymocks. I had a look in the mind body spirit section and found lots of new age books, lots of self help books and a few Christian books but no Bibles. So I decided to have a look upstairs. I eventually found a Religion section and there were about a dozen Bibles, Catholic and Prodo. None really appealed. So I went to GB’s and had a look in there book area, and I could not find a single Bible. I found about a dozen Christian books but no Bibles.
I thought this can’t be right so I proceded to Angus and Robertson and searched in there for Bibles. Yet again I found some general Christian books, a plethora of self help books but no Bibles. I was begining to get concerned if I was a non-Christian looking for a decent Bible where would I go.
Then I realised there was only one place to try, the Mecca of book stores, Borders. I went into Borders and found first the Koran and then probably about 2 dozen different Bibles. I ended up buying a little hard backed ESV one for $25. I proced to the counter and purchased it feeling a little nervous but no remarks were made.
My quest was finished.
Isn’t sleep a wonderful thing. I got to go to sleep by about 3am this morning after seeing Last Samuri and doing some work. Then I got to sleep in until 11am. 8 whole hours sleep. I am feeling more rested then I have all week.
Angel is back on channel 7 on Wednesday’s at 10.30. I am looking forward to it. Spike is going to be on Angel as a ghost this season. How cool is that?
You can tell a lot about an organisation by the way it, treats its staff and volunteers.
