One Geek

Skipped the key note this morning. Decided I’d rather get some sleep. I feel so much better now I’ve had a bit of sleep.

Travel

I caught a tram yesterday after to Gelengl. It was an old restored tram line, and tram that is being used for both commuter and tourist value. It was very uncomfortable to ride in. There was like zero leg room, and it was very crowded. It also cost $3.30 each way.
Got to the beach had a walk on the pier. Got some hot chips and a coke. Sat down on a park bench. It was in front of a hotel. The problem was the hotel had a very annoying loop playing about their various breakfast deals.

Then I caught the tram back again not quite as uncomfortable because there were less people. I then went to Coles and brought myself a Coles Butter Chicken microwave meal. It wasn’t too bad.

uClinux is pretty damn cool. I went to a good presentation on it this morning. The other two talks I went to (GStreamer and UMLSim) were a bit dull.

Think I’ve almost made a friend. Talked to a few people today. It is getting better.

Wireless LAN is a mixed blessing. It is quite convient but I believe it can lead to asocialness. But that is alright, cause now I am taking advantage of it. I do though think it is quite rude to use a laptop whilst someone is giving a presentation. I really think that people should give speakers their full attention.

Has been quite lonely. The presentations have been really good. Just a shame when one is surronded by so many socially inept humans. There are also many small groups of people who came together. Anyway today I might try and make a friend. We shall see what happens.

I went and saw good bye lenin at cinema palace. I then had a very good dinner at Stanley’s. I had Burramandi and a glass of White Wine to begin with. For desert I had a Brandy Basket and a Kulua and Milk. The waitress was nice which made the meal far less depressing. Though it is always sad asking for a table for one.

Here I am at LCA blogging from a PowerBook G4 through a a wireless LAN. There is a variety of people here. The atmosphere is pretty damn cool.

Need to get my monies worth so here I am posting again. Brought a WLAN card today took about 6 different computer shops before I found a few that new what an 802.11b pc card was. I bargined a guy down from $75 to $50 for it too. Why did I get a WLAN card you may ask. Free WLAN access for linux.conf.au. How cool is that.

Can’t do much tonight. Waiting for my pay to go through. Going to go to Wollies and get a microwave meal I think.

Is quite quaint. Rather small and low rise. I took an airport bus for $7 that took 40minutes to get me to my hotel. Where they said my room wasn’t ready. So I went for a walk to Rundle Mall. They have Borders in Adelaide and a very funky looking Hoyts. Adelaide reminds me of Christchurch. There are lots of little parks and things.
The city is swarming with Scouts it’s a bit scary. Visited an Information Center and found out wear the internet cafe’s are. I then got myself lunch at Hungry Jack’s today. The chips didn’t have enough salt. And now I am in an internet cafe. It’s all good.

I am having a good time. Might see if my rooms availible in a little while.

Before the flight I let a 3 minute Angel named Daisy work wonders with her hands. I gave her $9 too much I think. But thats alright she did a good job.

The flight Was rather uncomfortable. i had a window seat at the back of the plain but I was surronded by families. The guy sitting next to me was on occasion crossing the arm reast. My back got pretty soar from the flight, undoing the work of my Angel. There was also an obnoxious American on the flight who wanted a window seat. All the food I got was a box with biscuits, an apple and water. I prefer Virgin where I can buy a coke at least. Landing and take of was good fun as always. The host persons didn’t even say good bye.

I am at Sydney Domestic now waiting for my flight. Just had a $6.20 crosoint and I am still hungry. Airport food is so expensive.

Caught the train in this morning. John French was going to the airport too. We caught the trains in to the airport together. John is a bit of a dude. We got off an express train and walked to the airport platform and there was a train already waiting for us.

I am using a web point internet kiosk they kind of suck. The keyboards are really crappy.

I get to board in 30minutes. Don’t know the gate yet. Got here far to early for them to have assigned a gate. Anyway that’s about all I have to say more soon.

The only problem with flying is that you often have to get up quite early. But I am excited now. Get to go on a plane soon. I like planes. I wonder whether I’ll get a good single serve friend on the flight. It’s been a long time since I have got someone I could talk to sitting next to me.

General

Tommorow to Adelaide. I am going to a linux conference there. I am not quite sure how it’s going to be. I am at the stage where I am a bit nervous. I am wondering whether I’ll make any friends. I am going to so laugh if I meet who some people have suggested I will meet. I don’t think I am going to though. I think I’ll buy some chocalate and wine though.

Someone commented on my blog, and told me about the availibility of a book of U2 sermons. Beth who made that comment runs a U2 sermons blog. From there I went looking at other U2 sites and found some rummors about U2’s new album. It’s being released in Spring(North), Autumn(South). It’s sounding like it will be very cool.
