Bad Program Practice

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

It is not good to forget to change the names in the header of a file when you rename a file. Even worse when the file does a completely different thing then what the header section of the file says it does.

Work

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

I am turning into even more of a geek now that I am back at work full time.

Programing/Fixing former employees C Code for micro controllers, programing in Kylix, Python, PHP and C. I feel like a real geek now. I think it’s the working with the micro that does it. I love being free of the confines of an Operating System, and having to optimise code so it actually fits on to a device. Running at 4Mhz with 32k flash is just more of a challenge.

Dodgy Things

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

I have seen some dodgy things today.
I saw a car drive on the wrong side of the road so it could turn into another road blocked by a medium strip.
I have seen people at the airport clapping arivials wearing “Give God the Glory” Badges.
I have seen a very dodgy crazy man be generally dodgy..
I have seen a low speed car crash on cnr of William St and Pacific Hwy. Where a semi crumpled the side of a little car very slowly. No one was injured.
I am working on a device with a dodgy screen and dodgy code to go along with it.

Short Films

Friday, December 5th, 2003

There’s a cool short film on Bad Eggs DVD. It’s very cool. Much better then the film.

Blockbuster

Friday, December 5th, 2003

There’s a new Blockbuster store in Hornsby. And it’s rentals are pretty damn cheap $1 weekdays, $3 weekends and $2 for overdues. I rented Bad Eggs tonight from there. The store is pleasent enough but lacks the friendleness and charm of Video Ezy. Place Mark doesn’t work there. So anyway now I don’t know where to rent my DVD’s. I don’t want to abandon Video Ezy but there price rise to $6 on weekends is making me seriously consider dogging it. On another note my Blockbuster password is Tom’s last name. I don’t know why, I think it’s a password for some phone banking or something as well.

Dial up connections

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003

I am so glad I don’t use dial up internet. I am currently sending a file remotely which is 2.65MB down a 16.8Kbps link. It is rather slow..Looks like it will take 30 minutes to do..

Programs clossed when TTY detached

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003

Found a little problem over the weekend. When remote logging in to a system either through direct modem or ssh, any commands you run will be terminated after you close the connection. Even if you run using the & background directive. A very simple fix for this is to run commands using atd if you wish them to run in the background.

Blogs Are Handy

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003

I remember today that I had forgotten to pay my phone bill. Normally I would of had to remember again when I got home to find my bill and then b-pay it. However cause I posted the amount on my blog I could simply logon to internet banking and pay it.
